some years ago a friend of mine visited a hackerspace with me. when asked who we were he gave a brief description of himself and then said: thats brain, she'll write a book some day. it struck me as lightning as i realised i had always been wanting to do that. where to start was what kept me from writing aynthing at all
as i look at the ever changing world atm i guess the first thing that comes to mind are the concepts of fear and greed.
society tells us that there are others who want to take our wealth, freedom or whatever - we believe that since we were born and raised in a society that regards people as human capital and life as an endless competition. in fact, we spend so much time worrying about money issues and other problems of everyday life that we forget to see the things that are right in front of our very eyes.
to me, someone who thinks of humans as being devided into good/bad people by religion, social or financial status, race or whatever, hasn't understood the fundamental idea of humanism. there are no others, we are all the same. every human has the same value.
we tend to forget the worth of an open society and the endless possibilities of access to wisdom, art and enlightenment for everyone cause we're being kept busy always wanting more.
the basic principle of capitalism is a need for something that can never be fulfilled. for a capitalist, there is no such thing as enough. wishes are being created, people are being alienated by their fellow humans for the sake of all that made us human in the first place. i can't tell whether i would shoot someone if i was threatened to die instead but i know for certain, that none of us want to consume when the price is the wellbeing of our global society.
in my humble opinion the media play with our emotions to sell rational conclusions. we are being diverted to keep us from marching down the street together. that only works as long as you believe that we are not all the same. call me a huge hippie but to me the fact that i dislike some doesn't change their value.
ignorance seems to be the source of all evil here but when i took a closer look i realised it all comes down to fear. well, we are being born to believe that anything is possible. that leads to several conclusions: we are being born as little princes and princesses in the western world. if we don't make it, it's either our own fault or someone else's; like nazis blaming immigrants for taking their jobs.
we fall into a depression, we fear for our existence. people in shock can't think straight. if we want to overcome the system before it kills yet more life on earth, we have to sit down and reflect the fears our opinions were built on before we can make the system fall without crashing too many of us.
